Tips and Tricks Post 2

More helpful tip and tricks :)

  • BETTER GRILLING Place a foil drip pan in the center of the coals when preparing for indirect heat. Top with the cooking grate and put meat over the pan.
  • SIMPLIFY SEEDING To seed cucumbers quickly, I peel them, cut off the ends lengthwise. I stand the halves up on a cutting board and use an apple corer to remove the seeds.
  • SANDWICH ICE CREAM Scoop your favorite flavor between 2 store-bought cookies. Roll the sandwich edges in sprinkles and eat before it melts!
  • SMARTER CHILLING Big pieces of ice melt slower than cubes. If you'll be gone awhile, fill clean empty milk cartoons with water, then freeze to take with you.
  • CHANGE UP UTENSILS Let kids use easy "cheater chopsticks" for a change of pace and add a little fun to a meal.
  • POP TO IT! It may not be the '60s anymore, but jiffy pop is still in business. For family fun, let one of their self-contained popping pans pop until it won't stop!
  • HAVE A FOODIE FATHER Book a cooking class with dad for Father's Day. Many local shops, Community schools and restaurants hold classes that'll give him a chance to show off his skills and learn new tricks.
  • GIVE CORN AN UPGRADE Combine 1/2 cup butter, 2 Tbs. each minced fresh basil and cilantro and 1/2 tsp. salt. Spread on grilled sweet corn and serve with grilled chicken sandwiches for an easy weeknight meal.
  • GREASE IT RIGHT To easily grease a hot grill grate, fold a paper towel into a small pad. Hold the pad with long-handled tongs, dip in vegetable oil and rub over the grate.
  • SIMPLER PACKING Pack your basket in reverse for ease at any picnic: Place nonperishable foods on the bottom, then tableware and serving items on top.
  • PREVENT SOGGY CONES Place one large marshmallow in a cake cone's base; cover with a half-scoop of ice cream, it's the perfect size for kids and keeps melted ice cream from soaking through the bottom.
  • KEEP ASPARAGUS FRESH Add about an inch of water to the bags asparagus comes in and place stems upright in a container in the fridge. It stays fresh for up to 4 days.
  • COOK A BUNCH Grill an assortment of veggies on the weekend to use during the week. They're tasty in pasta and rice dishes, omelets and more!
  • DESSERT IN A DASH Tuck fresh raspberries and sweetened whipped cream into store-bought crepes for a treat.
